Natural Horse Training

                 "Horses are professional people trainers"

Shadow Mountain Stables Natural Horse Training Philosophy

Why do our colorful champions have such sweet dispositions and gentle temperament?  How are they able to be desensitized and ridden with what seems like such little effort?  The answer is professional  natural horsemanship training (sometimes called "horse whispering.")  This natural method of communicating with the horse rather than hurting him/her to make them comply, creates a willing partnership.  All of our horses have been started on Natural Horse training.

Clay Harper crop.jpg (155649 bytes)At Shadow Mountain Stables we are committed and dedicated to Natural Horsemanship (NH).  Where learning occurs as a result of using body language, sometimes referred to as "Equis," language (i.e. Horse Whispering) where you  "speak" to the horse using what the horse already knows.  By communicating to the horse what the horse needs to hear, most "problems" can be resolved quickly.  Teaching the owner/rider how to use these techniques effectively is what we do.

Horses already know how to communicate with each other.  The hard part is teaching people the language of the horse, so we can communicate with them.  As Caesar Millan says, we "train people and rehabilitate (horses)."     We follow and respect the great trainers who pioneered and perfected this non-violent  technique, such as Monty Roberts, Frank Bell (pictured below), Clay Harper (pictured top left with Jan at Temecula clinic and right at Shadow Mountain Stables), Josh Lyons, Richard Shrake, Sylvia Scott, Pat Parelli, Chris Cox, Clinton Anderson and more.

Horses are naturally herd animals.  They depend on other horses, each with a defined role,  to provide protection from predators.   In today's equine world, where horses are often alone or ridden in small groups with unknown horses, horses may feel this natural order is sometimes lost.  This can cause confusion in the horse, or worse, lack of respect for the rider/handler.  By giving the horse what he/she needs, a leader, the horse is able to relax and accept direction without challenge.  This creates a happier and safer horse; and, a better riding experience.

"What makes our program unique is that we don't train horses.  We teach people how to communicate with their horse.  We help create a bond between horse and rider, resulting in a safe and secure ride.  It doesn't matter whether it is a 15 year old trail horse or a 7 year old hunter-jumper, the results are always the same."
